If you’re using puff pastry that’s already thawed out, you can make these breadsticks in less than 30 minutes!
The garlicy buttery aroma of these breadsticks will make your mouth water! And since they only take about 15 minutes in the oven, they won’t heat your kitchen up on hot summer days.
These soft Garlic Puff Pastry Breadsticks make a clever presentation. Simply stand them up in a wide mouth glass and set them out on your table or buffet.
They’re the perfect side for a weeknight dinner or a special dinner party. Make them for a meat and potato meal or any dish that’s got a little extra sauce that needs scooping up!
Garlic Puff Pastry Breadsticks Recipe
This recipe is incredibly elegant even though it’s super simple to make. 1 box with 2 pastry sheets makes 12 breadsticks.
Ingredients
- 1 box of frozen puff pastry sheets.
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon garlic salt (or 2 teaspoons garlic powder and 1 teaspoon salt)
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (grated or shredded)
Instructions
- Thaw out a package of puff pastry
- Cut each sheet into 6 strips (about 1 1/2 inches wide). Use a bread knife or a pizza cutter.
- Brush with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1-2 tablespoons water)
- Sprinkle with parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and dried Italian seasoning
- Twist and brush with egg wash again
- Sprinkle with more grated parmesan cheese
- Place breadsticks on a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat mat.
- Bake in a 400F degree preheated oven for 15 minutes. They should puff up double in size and will be flakey and golden brown.
These breadsticks will last for up to 5 days covered in plastic wrap in the refrigerator.
Tips for Making Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks
- Let the puff pastry thaw completely – if you don’t it will tear and it will be difficult to maneuver
- Use a pizza cutter to cut straight even strips
- After cutting the pastry into strips, brush the egg wash on both sides, then twist. The egg will act like glue and keep it twisted as it cooks.
- Make extra! These will go fast!
Bread stick Variations
Instead of using parmesan, rosemary and garlic, have fun playing around with the spice blend. Here’s some ideas to get you going!
- Herbs de Provence and grated Gruyere (Swiss cheese)
- Cinnamon and sugar
- Cinnamon, sugar and chopped nuts
- Shredded cheddar, onion powder and garlic
- Italian Seasoning, parmesan, garlic
- Curry powder
- Cumin, garlic, onion powder
Regardless of how you serve them up, they make a beautiful (and tasty) presentation on any table!
