Bulletproof Coffee – Today!

April 12, 2016 by Madalaine 2 Comments

Bulletproof coffee is a life saver.  First time I ever heard of it, I was listening to a Jimmy Moore podcast Livin La Vida Low Carb and this fellow (Dave Asprey) was demonstrating his bulletproof coffee on a cruise ship.  I thought they were all nuts.  I mean really, butter in your coffee??? Yuck!  But the more I thought about it, it didn’t sound too bad.  Butter is just cream, you put cream in coffee.  So, why not?  And I was tired of being hungry all the time, frustrated by post menopausal weight gain, and frustrated with the feeling like my head was in a fog most of the day.  What did I have to lose?  I got into ketosis and on a morning routine of Bulletproof Coffee.

Bulletproof Coffee – 8 ounce coffee, 1 tablespoon MCT oil, 2 tablespoons unsalted butter.  Blend with a blender or hand emulsion blender.  Drink.

Well, I did loose something.  I lost 15 pounds.  I lost the fuzzy feeling in my head.  I lost my hunger pangs.

This is Dave Asprey’s XCT Oil which is concentrated MCT oil.  You can find MCT oil on Amazon or GNC.

Getting into ketosis is an incredible paradigm shift.  I was sure I was killing myself with butter.  And what about cholesterol levels?  That’s what we’ve been taught for years: fat makes you fat, cholesterol clogs your arteries.  Well, research is finding out that is not accurate.  Sugar is looking more and more like the culprit.  Dr. Weil has this to say about saturated fats, cholesterol levels, and heart disease.  The March 2010 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported on a large-scale clinical study and found “no statistical associations between blood and cardiac saturated fatty acids.“

Does that mean the notion of saturated fats cause heart attacks has been refuted?  I think we’re getting there, but we’re not there yet.  Do we have the green light to go out and eat 2 pounds of butter with a dozen angel fluff Krispy Kreme doughnuts?  No, of course not.

Moderation is key.  Know what works for you.  Get your blood work done and watch it.  Ask your doctor questions and do your own follow up by doing the research yourself.  Take responsibility for your own health.  Question Authority.  Always.

If you’ve tried Bulletproof Coffee or live in ketosis please comment below.  Did you like the taste or was it disgusting?  How did it make you feel?  I would really like to know your experiences.

I’m so happy you like it! Sometimes I put sugar-free hazelnut syrup or cinnamon in it. Let me know if you find a variation you really like!
