This is a super moist chocolate cake that's easy to make in less than an hour.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 โ…” cups flour
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ยพ cup cocoa
  • 1 ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • ยฝ cup butter unsalted & melted
  • ยฝ cup oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ยฝ cup hot coffee

Frosting

  • ยฝ cup butter unsalted
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ยผ teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ยฝ cup cocoa
  • chocolate chips

Instructions

Chocolate Cake

  1. Mix together flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cocoa, and salt in a mixing bowl.

  2. In another bowl, stir together melted butter and oil.

  3. Stir flour mixture into butter and oil.

  4. Lightly beat together the eggs, yolk, and vanilla.

  5. Add egg mixture to batter.

  6. Gradually add buttermilk and stir well.

  7. Stir in hot coffee.

  8. Line greased and floured cake pans with parchment or silicone.

  9. Divide cake batter evenly between pans.

  10. Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes.

  11. Cool cakes for 15-30 minutes.

Chocolate Frosting

  1. Mix butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy with no lumps.

  2. Mix in vanilla and salt.

  3. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa until completely combined.

Chocolate Cake Assembly

  1. Spread frosting inbetween layers and all over cake.

  2. Decorate with chocolate chips.

  3. Freeze for 15 minutes.

  4. Take out of freezer, wrap with plastic wrap, and put back in freezer.
